Industrial design · Eindhoven

From sketch to tooling.

Studio Plinth designs physical products that actually reach production — housings, handles, hinges, the parts people touch ten thousand times. Four designers, a workshop with real machines, and a rule that nothing ships that we haven't broken first.

Process

P0 to P3, honestly.

Every product goes through four prototypes. The numbers are real stages on our workshop wall, not a slide.

  1. The ugly one

Cardboard, hot glue and printed parts inside a week. It answers the only question that matters this early: is the idea worth a month?

  2. The working one

Machined and printed, correct mechanisms, wrong materials. This is the prototype users get their hands on — and the one that changes the brief.

  3. The honest one

Right materials, near-final tolerances, tested to failure on the bench. Whatever breaks here would have broken at a customer. Cheaper here.

  4. The tooling one

Draft angles, wall thicknesses, the boring drawings that make injection moulders answer emails. We stay through first shots off the tool.

Engagements

Three ways to work.

Fixed prices for the phases we can see; honest ranges for the ones nobody can. Every engagement starts with the P0 week.

Most popular

The P0 Week

€6,500 one week, fixed

Your problem, our workshop, five days. You leave with an ugly prototype and a truthful answer about the month.

  • The ugly prototype, yours
  • A go/no-go you can trust

The Program

scoped at P€0 P1 → P3

The full arc to tooling, priced per phase after the P0 week has shrunk the unknowns.

  • Phase-gate pricing, no surprises
  • We stay through first shots

The Bench Retainer

€3,800 per month

For hardware teams that need a workshop and four opinions on tap — reviews, fixes, tolerance arguments.

  • 48h turnaround on reviews
  • Workshop hours included

Clients

After first shots

The P0 week killed our idea. Best €6,500 we ever spent — the tooling quote we didn't sign was €140,000.
Hardware founderThe honest no
They argued with us about 0.1 millimetres for a week. In production, that argument is why the hinge doesn't creak. We now start every project with them.
Product leadConsumer devices
Our moulder said the drawings were the cleanest he'd seen from a design studio. First shots worked. Nobody believed us at the trade fair.
