Opaline makes a small number of pieces a year, by appointment and without hurry — stones chosen in person, settings built around them, and heirlooms given their next life.
The atelier
Most jewellery starts with a design and shops for a stone to fill it. We work the other way around: you sit with a tray of stones, one insists on coming home with you, and the setting is drawn around exactly that stone — its cut, its colour in evening light, the way it sits on your hand.
It takes longer. It's also why an Opaline piece never quite looks like anyone else's: it wasn't designed for anyone else.
What we take on
Each begins the same way: an hour at the table, the stones between us.
A piece from nothing — engagement rings most often, but also the bracelet you've described to three jewellers who didn't listen. Eight to twelve weeks, two fittings.
Grandmother's stones in a setting you'll actually wear. We keep every gram of the old gold and photograph the piece before it changes — some goodbyes deserve a record.
Two plain bands, made by your own hands in one slow afternoon at our bench, with a goldsmith at each elbow. The only service with cake.
The bench
There is no 'our workshop abroad'. The bench is behind the velvet curtain, the torch is lit most mornings, and if you visit mid-commission you can watch your setting take shape — solder, file, polish, breathe.
Every piece is hallmarked in-house and signed under the gallery, where only you and the next goldsmith will ever find it.
Jewellery should outlive the occasion it was bought for.
The cabinet
From the table
We made our own wedding bands at their bench. Mine is slightly wonky at one point and I would not trade that millimetre for anything.
They remade my mother's ring without losing my mother in it. I don't know a better way to say what that's worth.
I came in for 'something small' and left having been talked OUT of spending more. You can trust people like that.

First consultations are unhurried and without obligation — bring photographs, heirlooms or nothing at all. Tuesday to Saturday.
